Travel FAQs

Is it safe to visit Pamir?

Tajikistan has a stable, secular government and there is very little crime in Pamir, which makes it a safe place to visit. The numerous travel agencies that organize trips here confirm this. In 2019, more than 1.2 million foreign tourists visited Tajikistan and Pamir. To ensure that our clients always have a safe journey, we have long lasting relationships with our lodging providers and we are very familiar with all travel routes and trek itineraries.

Essentials include warm clothing, sturdy hiking boots, a sleeping bag, altitude sickness medication, and travel insurance.

We can help plan your entire visit but it is not required. Since our goal is to offer the maximum flexibility to our customers, we can either organize shorter tours that you can add to your trip schedule or plan your entire journey here.

This depends on the kind of tours you want to do. For many of our treks you should be able to hike for at least 4-5 hours with 600m to 1000m elevation gain. For less demanding tours, no particular fitness level is required. However, consider that the Pamir plateau is located at a very high altitude (3500m4000m). This may be contraindicated for people with specific medical conditions. In case you have any doubts, you should contact your doctor before coming to Pamir

Key attractions include the Pamir Highway, Wakhan Corridor, Iskanderkul Lake, Karakul Lake, and Peak Lenin.

We suggest spending at least one week in Pamir. This is the minimum time to enjoy your visit without too much time pressure. However, if you want to live your experience to the fullest, two to three weeks may be more appropriate.

This depends on your personal preferences and the activities you enjoy the most. For longer multiple-day treks, July and August are the best months, but shorter treks are possible from May till October. The best time for bird watching is late April, when hundreds of migratory species pass through Pamir. In summer, temperatures range between 0 and 20 Celsius degrees with very little precipitation. If you do not mind low temperatures (-10 to -30 degrees) consider visiting Pamir in winter, as we promise you that the landscape will be jaw dropping!

Yes, you need a visa to enter Tajikistan. In addition to that, you need a GBAO permit to enter Pamir. Since September 2015 Tajikistan introduced an electronic visa, available online and valid for 45 days (https://www.evisa.tj/index.evisa.html). Together with the electronic visa, for an additional price, you can apply for the GBAO permit too
